🐾 Veterinary Assistant – Livewell Animal Hospital (Chevy Chase, MD)

Compensation: $20–$25/hour (based on experience)
Schedule: 4-day work week, rotating Saturdays (8am–12pm)
Hours:
Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri – 8am–6pm
Sat (every other) – 8am–12pm
Closed Wednesday & Sunday

? The Role: Veterinary Assistant
We’re looking for an experienced Veterinary Assistant who thrives in a collaborative, positive environment and wants to grow with a hospital that invests in its people.
Your responsibilities will include:
Assisting in surgery (intubation, monitoring anesthesia, IV catheter placement)
Performing dental charting, scaling, polishing, and digital dental radiography
Conducting lab work (including ear cytology and sample prep/reading)
Supporting veterinarians in exams and client communication
Using low-stress and Fear Free handling techniques
Preferred Experience:
Dental and anesthesia experience
Comfort with dogs, cats, and exotics
Familiarity with EZYvet and IDEXX in-house lab equipment

Responsibilities and Benefits
Role Responsibilities/Qualifications Responsibilities - Assist DVMs and credentialed veterinary technicians with appointments, prepping patients for surgery and minor procedures, surgical assisting, and pro-actively set up for any procedures or diagnostic tests - Restrain animals in a safe, efficient, and caring manner - Obtain accurate vitals, obtain medical histories, and/or note any changes of patients condition to DVM - Collect and prepare laboratory samples such as fecal, urine, and ear cytologies - Care and maintenance of all medical equipment including laboratory machines, surgical packs, anesthesia machines, and any other tools that are essential to daily operations - High quality client communication on patient updates and questions Qualifications - High School diploma or GED certificate - Flexible schedule including some weekend and holiday shifts - Knowledge of medical procedures and animal handling - Must possess strong communication skills, good judgment and be able to manage stressful situations, and work with others on a team respectfully - Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
