Job Description

We’re looking for an experienced, forward-thinking veterinary leader to join Livewell as our Director of Clinical Operations for the West. In this highly influential role, you’ll coach and mentor our Founding Leads, shape clinical leadership across the organization, and help build a unified, high-quality standard of care that supports growth, client satisfaction, and team alignment across all Livewell practices.

This is a hands-on, relationship-driven leadership position ideal for a DVM who thrives in multi-site environments, enjoys developing people, and is energized by building systems, culture, and clinical excellence from the ground up.

Responsibilities and Benefits

What You’ll Do
Hospital Coaching & Quality Assurance (approximately 75%)
You’ll serve as the primary coach, mentor, and line manager for our Founding Leads—supporting both existing leaders and those transitioning into leadership roles. Your work will include:
  • Providing ongoing mentorship, guidance, and leadership development through regular 1:1s
  • Partnering with Hospital Managers to support effective line management and resolve clinical or operational challenges
  • Addressing medical issues as they arise and helping leaders navigate real-world decision-making
  • Facilitating peer mentorship, group discussions, and shared learning to reduce silos and strengthen collaboration
  • Conducting site visits and inspections to assess quality standards, compliance, leadership dynamics, and opportunities for improvement
Strategy & Clinical Leadership Development (approximately 20%)
You’ll play a key role in shaping Livewell’s broader clinical strategy by:
  • Creating a unified, evidence-based care model across all practices
  • Designing and implementing leadership development programs, including training sessions, workshops, and 1:1 mentoring
  • Building the “Livewell playbook” for leadership, covering team management, financial and operational acumen from a DVM perspective, client communication, and culture-building
  • Establishing feedback loops, recognition programs, and an annual Founding DVM Leadership event
Standards of Care & Clinical Excellence
In collaboration with specialists and clinical experts, you’ll help develop and support Livewell’s Standards of Care by:
  • Establishing clear, consistent protocols for diagnostics, treatment planning, and client communication
  • Defining metrics to assess success, quality, and compliance across practices
Professional Development (approximately 5%)
You’ll continue to grow as a leader while helping shape the future of Livewell’s clinical organization.
What We’re Looking For
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) with an active license in good standing
  • Prior veterinary hospital ownership experience (de novo preferred)
  • Previous leadership experience, ideally in a multi-site or offsite operational role
  • Proven ability to think and operate at both strategic and operational levels
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to coach, influence, and inspire leaders
  • Comfort working across multiple locations and teams
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office tools
This role offers the opportunity to make a lasting impact—on hospitals, teams, and the quality of care delivered across an entire organization.
